Bob Craig Scholarship

Named for the former publisher of the Hamlin Herald who died in 1981, the Bob Craig Memorial Scholarship is given to two college students. Applications are solicited from high schools and colleges in the membership area. One scholarship is given to a graduating senior and the other to a college junior or senior who is pursuing a career in print media. The WTPA scholarship of $1,000 per year, paid $500 each semester, is matched by Texas Press Association, so that the students receive $1,000 each semester.

The West Texas Press Association and Texas Press Association will award the Bob Craig Memorial
Scholarship of $2,000, payable over two semesters at $1,000 per semester, during which journalism
courses are taken at the recipient’s college of choice.

Graduating seniors interested in applying for the scholarship must live in the general area encompassed
by West Texas Press Association member newspapers, and plan to major in Print Advertising
or Journalism. Broadcast or Public Relations majors do not qualify.

Students must fi ll out the following application and submit a 250-500 word essay on the subject,
“My Future and Career Plans in Community Journalism.”

Judging will be conducted by the WTPA board, and announced at the 79th Annual Summer Convention,
July 16-18, 2009 in San Angelo.

Deadline to Apply is June 19, 2009

The West Texas Press Association and Texas Press Association will award the Bob Craig Memorial
Scholarship of $2,000, payable over two semesters at $1,000 per semester during which journalism

and be a print Advertising or Journalism major. Recipients must be enrolled in at least three hours
of college or university journalism courses each semester that the scholarship is awarded. Broadcast

Winners of the 2004 Bob Craig Memorial Scholarships are Sabra Jennings of Granbury, a student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and Koby Kestner, the 2004 Salutatorian of Dublin High School.
