You
are invited to become an active member of a very
unique organization, comprised of people very
much like yourself. Hardworking newspaper folk,
dedicated to service to their community, join
together in the West Texas Press Association to
keep up with fast changing technology and the
development of innovative ideas.
WTPA is recognized as the “largest regional
press association in the world” because
of its vast geographic area. The association includes
weekly, semi-weekly and small daily newspapers
serving communities across West Texas and Eastern
New Mexico.
There are no formal boundaries for WTPA or the
state’s other regional press groups. WTPA
informally considers El Paso, Fort Stockton, Hondo,
Gatesville, Perryton, Wichita Falls and Decatur
as its perimeter cities. In 1993, membership was
extended into eastern New Mexico, now represented
by several participating newspapers. The association
also welcomes select associate members representing
educational institutions and companies which serve
community newspapers.
Your affiliation with West Texas Press Association
will help ensure important traditional projects,
plus give you the opportunity to exchange valuable
“tips of the trade” with fellow publishers.
Dues for membership have purposefully been held
low — $40 for newspaper members in cities
of 3,000 or less, $50 for newspaper members in
cities of 3,001 and over, and $100 for associate
members.
Three valuable services are provided in return.
The annual WTPA Better Newspaper Contest recognizes
members who excel in service to their readers
and advertisers. Through the Bob Craig Memorial
Scholarship program, WTPA pays $1,000 each year
to a graduating senior and also to a college student
pursuing a print media career. That amount is
matched by the Texas Press Association, bringing
the total for each student to $2,000. The annual
summer convention offers three days of family
fun and professional growth. Plan to take advantage
of all the benefits of meeting with fellow journalists
and friends while attending informative sessions
and participating in special activities.
Please give serious consideration to WTPA membership.
